5O5 World Rankings released

This is the first 5O5 World Wide ranking system the class has produced. For some background, it is based on the results of any National Championship that gets more than 25 boats, the Euro Cup events, Europeans and World Championships held over the last 2 years. To get a ranking you need to have competed in a minimum of 4 events in that time. World Championships get a 150% factoring.

Overall, we have had 400 helms compete at least one event from 17 countries and close to 70 boats have qualified. The most numerous country was Germany, but only just, 2 boats ahead of the USA with France in 3rd. Unfortunately, at this time we are only ranking helms and not yet crews. With more time and some automation, we hope to add a version with and for crews.

The most events attended award goes to Earle Alexander, competing in an amazing 14 events, followed by Michael Quirk who managed to get to 12 of the events.

The scores at the top are very tight, however with a run of wins this year with crew Carl Smit it is no surprise that the World Championship winning team sit at the top of the rankings, with a win at Riva this year, the UK Nationals and the Worlds they have a 7-point gap to Nathan Batchelor who has been crewed mostly by Sam Pascoe but also ably assisted by Norman Byrd. Taking third spot in the list is Howie Hamlin crewed by Andy Zinn and Jeff Nelson at the ranking events. Just outside the top 3 is Mike Martin crewed at all their qualifying events by Adam Lowry, their Worlds win in 2016 and 2nd in 2017 not being enough to overcome the lack of European events this year. Rounding out the top 5 is Ian Pinnel. Ian has had the pleasure of David Shelton and Alex Davis to guide him expertly around the race track.
